DUB BRIGADE
===========

Dub Brigade is a free delay plugin (VST3, 64-bit, Linux and Windows) in the
style of the old bucket-brigade (BBD) analog delays: dark, warm repeats that
can be pushed from a single echo to self-oscillation, with a tone filter that
sits inside the feedback loop, so every repeat gets a little darker and
narrower than the last.

It works on mono and stereo tracks, follows the tempo of your host, and has
no latency. The repeats may ring on after the music stops; the plugin tells
the host to keep running for 10 seconds.

INSTALLATION
------------

Copy the folder "Dub Brigade.vst3" to your VST3 folder, then rescan plugins
in your host.

  Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3
Linux: ~/.vst3 (or /usr/lib/vst3 for all users)

CONTROLS
--------

Top row

Input Level of the signal entering the delay. The dry signal is not
changed. Middle = unchanged, 0 = nothing enters the delay,
full = +6 dB. Above the middle the signal is also saturated,
more and more towards the maximum.

Repeat Rate Time between the repeats.
Sync off: free time from about 997 ms (knob at 0) down to
about 100 ms (knob at 1). Turning the knob up makes the
                delay shorter.
Sync on: the knob picks one of 16 note values, longest first,
from 1/1 to 1/32T (straight, dotted and triplet divisions).
Moving the knob while playing bends the pitch of the repeats
                like a tape echo.

Sync Switches Repeat Rate between free time (ms) and note values
computed from the tempo of your host.

  Feedback      How much signal returns to the delay. 0 = a single repeat;
higher values give more repeats. Around the middle the
repeats stop dying out, and above it the delay
self-oscillates and builds up. Self-oscillation needs some
input to start. The output is limited at 0 dBFS, so it will
not blow up your speakers, but turn the monitors down before
                you experiment.

Bass How much bass goes back into the feedback. At 0 the repeats
lose their low end as Tone filters it out; turn it up to keep
the bass in the repeats. High values together with high
Feedback make the bass oscillate and dominate.

Tone A sweeping band-pass filter inside the feedback loop. Up
makes the repeats brighter and thinner (centre about 4.5 kHz),
down makes them darker and fuller (centre about 100 Hz). With
high Feedback it also sets the pitch of the self-oscillation.

Bottom row

Modulation Depth of the delay-time modulation (a sine LFO). Adds motion
and a chorus-like wobble; the first half of the knob is
subtle, strong vibrato starts above about 0.6. The LFO speed
follows Repeat Rate (and the tempo in Sync mode).
Slow Makes the LFO about 4 times slower and the modulation deeper.
Tone Mod The same LFO also sweeps the Tone filter. Has no effect when
                Modulation is 0.

Compander Companding around the delay, as in many analog delays: the
signal is compressed before the delay and expanded after it.
Off at 0. Reshapes fast transients; sustained sounds are not
                affected.

Stereo Width 0 = mono (the same repeats on both sides). Middle = left and
right are independent. Above the middle the repeats get
wider than the input. Only the repeats are affected, the dry
signal is left alone. A very wide setting may sound thinner
                when summed to mono.

Dry/Wet Balance between the dry signal and the repeats: 0 = dry only,
1 = repeats only. The crossfade keeps the loudness steady.
The repeats have some extra gain, so at the middle they are
                louder than the dry signal.
